The closed rings do not have to be JSSUK rings, but must show the current year and breeders initials.

Kim Forrester included some very kind comments regarding the JSSUK in one of her recent Editor's Letter's.

Kim visited the JSSUK stand at the recent Bird Show OF The Year (BSOTY) and spent a good half an hour talking to the JSSUK committee, and for us committee members, it was great to meet the woman behind the UK's leading bird keeping publication......thanks Kim!

By now all JSSUK members should have received their new membership numbers on a small membership card.

With the release of the new membership numbers, all members are now eligible to purchase JSSUK closed rings.

Our ringing scheme is being run in association with AC Hughes.

Any member wishing to purchase society rings MUST send their membership card to AC Hughes when applying for JSSUK rings as this informs the manufacturer that you are a valid member.

Society closed ringing is completely optional but the JSSUK does see this as a positive step forward for our great society.

If you are a member and have not yet received your membership number/card click here to contact Andy Dutton (Membership Secretary) who will gladly assist.

The first year JSSUK rings.
Our colour scheme will follow the standard colours that AC Hughes
issue annually. This colour for 2009 is lilac (as pictured above).

The JSSUK committee attended a meeting yesterday in Tamworth, Staffordshire to discuss various society issues.

Full details of the meeting will be available in the next newsletter which will be issued soon (date to be confirmed).

One important point discussed yesterday was to remind all members planning to show their Java's at the forthcoming "Bird Show Of The Year" (BSOTY) on October 12th that all birds must be shown in the official Java sparrow show cage (as re-iterated in the last web update).

There will be a small number of JSSUK owned show cages available on the day for any member that does not have the official cage (one per person) and will be loaned on a first come first serve basis.

Anyone wishing to purchase Java sparrow show cages should email their nearest committee member for more details.

July 20th 2008

Anyone intending to show their Java sparrows at the forthcoming Bird Show Of The Year (BSOTY) on October 12th at Stafford's Bingley Hall, please remember that the official Java Sparrow show cage is now required.

Anyone who would like any information on purchasing new show cages or on modifying AFS cages please email a member of the committee by going to the "Contacts" page.

June 29th 2008

Once again the JSSUK were well represented at the Parrot Society Society sales day.

The JSSUK stand was manned by Steve Nesbitt, Dave Pover, Andy Dutton, Stuart Drury, Billy Hughes, Tommy Sisson, Brian Hilditch, Mark Capner and Norman Chapman.

There were many Java's for sale including several Agates that are now becoming more widely available thanks to a selected number of JSSUK members who made a concerted effort to establish the mutation over the last three years.

The JSSUK Catching Aviary, kindly donated by West Hagley Aviaries (www.westhagleyaviaries.co.uk), was used extensively throughout the day with every Java Sparrow transferred securely.

The aviary was also very popular with non-members who happily paid 50p per cage to transfer their birds. All monies raised from the aviary have now been transferred to the JSSUK coffers.

Thanks once again to Harry and Mel of West Hagley Aviaries for the donation of the aviary.

20th January 2008

Bryan Roberts, Dave Pover, Andy Dutton, Tommy Sisson and Stuart Drury made the journey to the Afon Lido Sports Centre, Port Talbot to represent the JSSUK at The Welsh National Exhibition Of Show Birds.

This event is the first major bird show of the year and as a society the JSSUK intends to be present at as many as possible to help lift the profile and raise awareness of what the Java Sparrow, and the JSSUK, has to offer to both newcomers and experienced bird keepers.

Pictured here are Dave Pover (right) and Tommy Sisson (left) who both made the long journey from Merseyside to South Wales to exhibit their Java's and to man the JSSUK for most of the day.
