The society was formed in late 2003 following discussions between some experienced Java Sparrow breeders who had been promoting the species within bird keeping for some years and a keen Java breeder with drive and enthusiasm who had an interest in websites. Initially hosted and promoted on this breeders website the society now has its own website following this breeders decision to give up his birds.

This new website is now maintained by a dedicated committee of members with vast knowledge of the species and the facility to update the site with the latest news from the world of Javas.

The simple aims of the society are to promote the keeping breeding and showing of Java Sparrows in aviculture and to assist in whatever ways possible with the conservation of the species in the wild. The society also includes the lesser known Timor Sparrow within its mandate. Timor Sparrows are rare in U.K. Aviculture and they are proving to be a challenge to establish at the present time with no new imports coming from Asia for sometime now.

From the outset we have recognised that not all Java Sparrow enthusiasts have access to the internet and a level of membership exists that meets the needs of these breeders and provides them with 4 newsletters/magazines per year. The society also benefits from a presence at various shows and sales throughout the year most notably at Stafford in March and October each year where members can sell their excess stock.

The Society has forged many links with breeders from outside of the U.K. and this has enabled us to establish a small group of members who are attempting to establish the Agate mutation in the U.K.We currently have members breeding Java Sparrows of the highest quality in all colours currently available and the rapid growth of the society has benefited individual members by making it easier to obtain quality birds to increase bloodlines and quality of stock.

Within the members area you can make contact with fellow breeders via the forum and learn about the latest news and developments from top breeders in the U.K.You can also see galleries of all of the current Java Sparrow Mutations which will eventually include photos of each colour at various stages of their development to assist those people wishing to try their hand at some of the rarer colours available.

We will also be including tips on the preparation of your birds for the show bench together with the Show standards of the JSSUK and details of the agreed show cage for JSSUK Shows.
